25th Film Festival

Faculty of Informatics, Masaryk University

Dear fans of film and student cinema, for twenty-five years, the Film Festival of the Faculty of Informatics at Masaryk University has been bringing together students, lecturers, and everyone with a desire to create, giving them the opportunity to express themselves through the language of film.

The theme of the 25th edition was "Break it!" (Rozbij to!). The 25th FF FI MU took place on Tuesday, May 13, 2025. Through the hands of the students, the screens saw the smashing of conspiracy theories about Brno, the certainty of a peaceful train ride, hearts after a difficult breakup, and a dystopian future where people are persecuted for memes.

Organized by MU students, the festival was held under the auspices of the Dean of FI MU, Prof. Jiří Barnát; the Mayor of the Brno-střed district, Ing. arch. Vojtěch Mencl; and the Mayor of the Statutory City of Brno, JUDr. Markéta Vaňková. It took place on the grounds of the Faculty of Informatics and, for the first time this year, at Cinema City Velký Špalíček.

Students participate in the festival's preparation in several groups—developing their soft skills in organization and PR, their creativity in video production, visual design, and web development, as well as their technical abilities.

About festival

The Film Festival of the Faculty of Informatics of Masaryk University is the result of the efforts of MU students who, during two semesters in the courses PV110 Fundamentals of Film Speech and PV113 Production of Audiovisual Works, undergo complete training in practical film production, often without previous experience. In small teams and individually, they go through the entire process of preparing a short film from themes through literary and technical scripts, production, editing, post-production, and master the work of writers, directors, cinematographers, sound engineers, producers, editors, actors and others.

The best films are awarded by a professional jury and by audience voting in the theaters. The winners receive cash prizes, gifts from sponsors, and a trophy – the Filmobol statuette.
